Hanoi is the capital of Vietnam, and one of the oldest capitals worldwide. Located on the banks of the Red River, Hanoi is historically rich with well-preserved colonial buildings, ancient pagodas, and unique museums within the city centre. Travel to Hanoi is a must for people wanting to discover Vietnam, with a population at about seven million inhabitants in 2013.
Travel to Hanoi is quite easy: by plane from every big city in the world, by bus from most Vietnamese cities, or by train from Sapa.
If you want to avoid very high temperatures, we suggest you to travel to Hanoi in January, February, March, April, November, and December. In the Vietnamese capital, and June-July-August are months with highest temperatures and heavy rainfall.

1. Imperial Citadel of Thang Long
The Imperial Citadel of Thang Long is a very large site, in the heart of the city, with buildings with traditional architecture in a superb state. It is a true festival of gold and colours when you travel to Hanoi. The large fortified enclosure (paying entrance) contains the former imperial palace. The visit is very varied and requires time (minimum 2 hours).

The Mausoleum is an important historical sight in Hanoi with beautiful gardens and surroundings. However, when you travel to Hanoi, be careful visiting this place because there is few information in English (mostly in Vietnamese). If you have not so much time during your travel to Hanoi, you can also just pass in front of the building which, once night falls, is lit up.

3. Hoan Kiem Lake and Ngoc Son
Enjoy the calm and beauty of Hoan Kiem Lake during your travel to Hanoi. It is located in the heart of Hanoi, close to the old quarter. For photo and temple fans, you will find on your way through the lake Ngoc Son Temple, a must do. Be careful, the entry is not free (VND 70,000).

4. Temple of Literature
Temple of literature is an amazing place. It covers many aspects of Vietnam's history but also Confucian philosophy and allows us to understand certain aspects of Vietnamese culture and the place of totemic animals such as turtles and unicorns. To see once when you travel to Hanoi.

5. Museum of Ethnology of Vietnam
This museum is very rich in architecture and allows you to discover all the ethnic groups of Vietnam. Outside, you will find habitats restored with great care and a building that explains the peoples and their customs. The information is in both English and Vietnamese.

1. Water Puppet Theatre
Very beautiful show for adults and children alike! The scenery in the water is sublime, accompanied by light effects, and the audio really brings the show to life. If you have some time to spend during your travel to Hanoi, do not hesitate.

2. Train Street
In order not to reveal the surprise when you travel to Hanoi, we suggest you to go to Alley 224 Le Duan, Kham Thien at 15:30 and 19:30.
3. Hanoi Old Quarter

5. Hanoi Opera House
The Hanoi Opera House, inspired by the Garnier Opera House in Paris, was restored in 1997. We advise you to attend, if you have time when you travel to Hanoi, one of the proposed shows. Our favorite is the show "My Village" in the acrobatic circus style.
