Can Tho is a famous stop in southern Vietnam. Located in the heart of the Mekong River, it is the largest city in the region. It is known for its floating market on the Mekong Delta, its rice paper-making village and picturesque rural canals.

Cai Rang floating market. This is the most famous of this kind. The market operates from 5:00AM to 9:00AM, so it is necessary to get up early to observe the busiest period of the market. The locals sell and buy a wide range of products catering to their daily life. You could find local products at a really affordable price. You could even eat local specialties cooked on boats. During your travel to Can Tho, try bún riêu cua: a tomato-based crab noodle soup with rice vermicelli and a dumpling made of paddy crab and shrimp paste.

Tip: do not miss the land market in Can Tho, which is also very typical. You will not see many tourists.
Ninh Kieu Quay. Not only the most famous place in Can Tho, but also the symbol of the city. Located on the banks of the Hau River, from the Ninh Kieu Wharf, you could have a rest at the romantic Mekong Delta's edge and see the Can Tho Bridge, the longest suspension bridge in Southeast Asia, with a total length of 16 km, including 4 lanes and 2.75 km from the main bridge.
Binh Thuy ancient house
. This house belongs to Duong family. This is the most ancient house in the Mekong delta. It has a western architecture, but still keeps many traditional characteristics that represent rural areas in the Mekong delta during the 20th century. You could also find a beautiful orchid garden.
It is located 7km north of Can Tho’s city centre: you should take a taxi or rent motorbikes to go there. You will be welcomed by Mr. Binh’s daughter, Thuy, who speaks French very well.

Cycling along the canals . Around your homestay, you could take a bike ride through the canals. Enjoy the journey and the smiles of the people who live there. There is usually no defined itinerary but ask your hosting family to show you the way.
Boat trip . Book a boat tip on the morning to see the floating markets but also enjoy a boat tour on the Mekong river during your travel to Can Tho. Head towards the shady little canals. Take a wooden row boat and enjoy seeing the real Mekong life.

Sao Hom Restaurant. Often the first place someone would advise you during your travel to Can Tho. Enjoy the English-speaking staff, which is very professional and friendly. The dishes on the menu are very diverse, but do not miss the coconut ice-cream for dessert, which comes smothered in alcohol. Try also the Vietnamese wine: the bottle costs only VND240,000 ($10).

Travel to Can Tho – Where to stay?
The best place to sleep is not in downtown Can Tho, but in family-run homestays. You will sleep in the small bamboo houses, in very quiet places. The family often serves you very good food. There are also bicycles to rent for free.
